A Drill to Help You Make Your Short Putts

In our Scoring Zone School, we have found that on short to mid-range putts, players struggle to find just the right pace at which to swing the putter.

The Drill

By placing a shaft down just in front of the hole (tees will help to keep the shaft still) and hitting putts in the 3 to 10 foot range, it will force you to strike the ball with just enough pace. If the ball is struck with not enough pace it will not make it over the shaft, with too much it will jump the shaft and the hole. The proper pace will allow the ball to hit the shaft, bounce over, and then drop into the cup. (To make this drill more challenging, narrow the opening of the support tees in front of the cup)

The Result

By working on the proper pace, you will make your short putts.
